Dr. Hüseyin Parkan Sanlıkol was born in Cyprus in 1944. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1969 and started to work in Bursa SSK Hospital after completing his specialization in physical therapy and rehabilitation in 1975. Being a true music enthusiast, Parkan Sanlıkol learned how to play the accordion and the trumpet from an early age and participated in concerts on Cypriot television with mixed choirs as well as marching bands. He was not only one of the founders of the Çizakça Polyphonic Choir in 1994 but he also worked many years for this institution which was later renamed as the Dünya Müziği Derneği.

Since his wife, Fethiye Sanlıkol is a piano instructor with a certificate from England, his musical journey in Bursa started when he began to organize piano recitals in various halls for his wife’s piano students. He started musical instrument courses first under the Bursa Philharmonic Association which then continued at Nilüfer Municipality’s Konak Cultural Center. As a result of reaching 800 students in 5 years he ended up being the main driving force behind many meaningful events that followed.

Since 2003 Dr. Hüseyin Parkan Sanlıkol served as the Honorary Consul of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. One of his biggest goals was to open a museum where the musical instruments he collected from all over the world would be exhibited. As someone who gifted Bursa with numerous successful and useful cultural activities, such as the “City Piano Days”, we remember him with compassion and grace by realizing his dream of a museum of musical instruments.
